About me

Hi I’m Tony, welcome to my blog!

I’m a coffee enthusiast with a passion for growing my own beans at home. My journey began with a simple love for gardening and the satisfaction of making and enjoying something I had grown and picked myself; the idea of home-made coffee  was incredibly appealing. I had a love of high quality coffee so I also saw the potential to save money by reducing my weekly coffee purchases. Early success motivated me to dive deeper into this rewarding hobby.

In 2014 I spotted some coffee seedlings for sale, it was the perfect opportunity to start my adventure. Or maybe the seed was planted in back in 1992, hitch-hiking in Ethiopia and drinking some home-grown brew.

Those few seedling grew well and soon I was picking my first crop. That’s where the learning curve got steeper. Today I pick and process about 30kgs a year from my backyard. Mostly through trial and (quite a bit of) error but also through Youtube and talking to a few growers and baristas I’ve honed the process down to be a fun and satisfying hobby.

Each step has been a fascinating experience, with both challenges and triumphs. I’ve enjoyed experimenting with different growing, processing and roasting techniques to settle on what is easy and fun for me.

Living in a beautiful location with my wonderful partner who is also a keen gardener and coffee lover adds another layer of joy. Together, we share not only our love for coffee but also the experience of nurturing these plants side by side. Whether it’s tending to our garden or sharing a delicious morning coffee together, I love every moment.

Join me on this fun journey as I share tips, experiences, and insights about growing coffee at home. I hope to inspire fellow coffee lovers and gardening enthusiasts to explore the joys of harvesting their own beans!
