Roasting at Home: From Green Beans to a Perfect Cup
22 October 2026
Millions of people roast their own coffee daily – most of them in a pan over an open flame!
Hulling is simply the process of removing the brittle parchment shell to reveal the green coffee bean inside. It’s the last step before roasting.
The coffee fruit or cherry has several layers to remove before the bean inside is ready to roast. Removing the skins, known as pulping is the first step.
It’s always exciting to catch a glimpse of the first red cherry for the season; the promise of a new vintage and what surprises it might hold.
Fresh, home-roasted coffee is on another level and until you try it you just won’t know what you’re missing.
